TELL TALE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF POOR VISION
- Holding a book too close to read
- Headaches and pains after reading
- Jumping lines while reading
- Inability to distinguish colours
- Difficulty reading from the blackboard
- Tilting the head to see better
- Rubbing the eye frequently
- Sensitivity to light
- Frequent tearing and pulling sensation while reading
- Obstructions in the field at view e.g. cobwebs, black spots, streaks
- Double vision or multiple vision
- Making consistently low grades in school
DO’S ON PROPER EYE CARE
- Study in a well-lit environment(the light should be behind and above)
- Take enough food rich in vitamins like fruits and vegetables
- Maintain proper hygiene e.g. clean and short finger nails, clean handkerchief
- Use protective eye goggles when working in extreme light environment e.g. welding
- Always go for routine eye examination with qualified eye doctor.
DONT’S FOR PROPER EYE CARE
- Do not rub your eyes or try to pick out dirt with your fingers
- Do not engage in activities that might jeopardize your eyes e.g. fighting, playing, with sharp objects, gazing at the sun, reading in dim illumination, reading directly under the sun, staying too close to the TV set/computer
- Avoid self-medication and use of other peoples’ prescription e.g. eye drops and glasses
- Avoid unorthodox medication e.g. urine, sugar solution, salt solution, kerosene etc.
